TEACHING

This menu is dedicated to teacher users. From here the teachers can create and planne courses, manage absences, grades, assignments, view reports and the current, future and history courses.

COURSE MANAGEMENT


Create a course

Preconditions:

In order to create a course, the user must fill in the following fields:

In the end, the user has to press the Save course button. The following window will apear:

Press Yes in order to schedule the course now or No to schedule the course later.

In order to create a lesson, the user should go to the workspaces main page and access the "Create a lesson" link. He could also create a lesson from his Personal RLO Folder, by accessing the Create->Create lesson button from RLO operations tab.

Preconditions

In order to schedule a course, the user must fill in the following fields:

In the end, the user has to press the Save planned course button. The following window will appear in case of the learning mode is not asynchronous and the students can self-register:

Press Yes in order to manage the participants now or No to manage the participants later.

Manage participants

This option is available for synchronous courses and for asynchronous without self-registration.

Preconditions

In order to manage the participants to the course, the user has to choose from the tree on the left side a user or a component, then click Add participant.

Teach a course

This menu is dedicated for supporting interactive lessons and can be accessed only by the teacher and students during a synchronous teaching. The teaching session is initiated and lead by the teacher.

Teaching a lesson

A teacher can start a virtual class in two modes:

Sending materials

In order to send a material to the students' computers, the teacher selects the material and then presses the button Send moment. As a result, the material will be displayed on the student's screen. The material is sent to the students checked in the right section

Following up of the student's screen

The section from the right side of the main screen reflects the students' presence at the lesson. The teacher has the possibility to watch the student's screen from the distance. In order to follow up the student's screen, he has to click on the student name. Following this operation, a new window will open where the viewfrom the student's monitor is displayed.

Material presentation

Displaying the material on the students' computers is done automatically when the teacher selects the material and sends it.

The teacher may decide upon the interactivity of the students during the lesson by selecting and deselecting students.

The teacher can see on his screen the materials sent to the students by accessing View last sent moment button.

View reports

Teacher has access on two similar reports: In this reports are available informations about the activity of the students for the selected or current lesson.

Closing virtual class

At the end of the lesson, the teacher closes the course session using the button Close virtual class button from the Operations section.

Participation to the lesson

The only users that can participate to the lesson are the teacher and the class students.

After the teacher has initiated the lesson, the students access the menu Learning - Available courses - Current courses. The student clicks on the desired syncronous course and he will be taken in the course summary page. In order to connect in the virtual class he has to click on the Join virtual class button.

After connecting to the virtual class, the student expects the teacher to send him the first lesson component.

When a teacher closes a virtual class, this will be automatically closed also for the connected students.

Manage courses

In this section, the user can:

Notice that you can not delete or archive a scheduled course. Also notice that you can not edit a course if exists in a running or finished schedule.

In order to export a course in greek, it must be selected Greek option from Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/Advanced - Language for non-Unicode programs and to select greek language from ael.

Manage course schedules

In this section,the user can:

Notice that you can only edit or delete a course schedule if the course has not started yet.

Import a course

The user can choose to import an archived course. After providing the path to the desired archived and pressing the Import button, the course will be imported.

Courses import reports

Here you can view the courses asynchronous imports

Here you can view the status of courses asynchronous imports including SUCCEEDED, PENDING, RUNNING, FAILED or CANCELED status.

When status is SUCCEEDED you can follow the link with the course name from the destination column and view the imported course in the courses list.

Further you can manage your new imported course as you wish.

ABSENCES AND GRADES


Absences

In this section, the teacher can view, add, edit or delete the absences he/she created. Optionally, the absences list can be exported to a .csv, .xls, .xml or .pdf file.

In order to view, edit or delete absences, the teacher has to select a class or a student from the tree on the left side of the page. If the selected entity is a component, all the absences created for students of that component will be listed on the right side.

Subject Absences

Preconditions

  • In order to create an absence for a given student and a given subject, the student must have that subject already associated (see the Admininistration menu, Subjects management link).
  • Associate a day period to a component(see the Admininistration menu, Day periods link and Components link)

A new absence can be created only if the selected entity is a student:

  • Subject
  • Day period
  • Date
  • Comment (optional field)

Subject Absences Book

In this section, the teacher can view the subject absences he/she created, by selecting a student or a component from the tree on the left side of the page. The comments associated with an absence can be view by pointing the mouse to the     icon.

Course Absences

Course Absences Book

In this section, the teacher can view the subject absences he/she created, by selecting a student or a component from the tree on the left side of the page. The comments associated with an absence can be view by pointing the mouse to the     icon.

Grades

In this section, the teacher can view, add, edit or delete the grades he/she created. Optionally, the grades list can be exported to a .csv, .xls, .xml or .pdf file.

In order to view, edit or delete grades, the teacher has to select a class or a student from the tree on the left side of the page. If the selected entity is a component, all the grades created for students of that component will be listed on the right side.

Subject Grades

Preconditions

A new grade can be created only if the selected entity is a student.

The teacher has to fill in the following fields:

Optionally, the user may choose to upload a .xls or .csv file containing the grades to be uploaded. The file must have the following fields: grade, is promoted, subject, date, comment, first name, last name. This is identical to the format used by the exported files.

In this section, the teacher can view the grades he/she created, by selecting a student from the tree on the left side of the page.
The comments associated with a grade can be view by pointing the mouse to the     icon:

Course Grades Book

In this section, the teacher can view the grades he/she created, by selecting a student or a component from the tree on the left side of the page.

Assignment Grades

In this section, the teacher can view, edit or delete grades he/she created, by selecting a student or a component from the tree on the left side of the page.

This section does not allow the teacher to create new assignment grades. In order to create a grade for a given student and a given assignment the teacher must navigate to Teaching/Assignments page.

Assignment Grades Book

In this section, the teacher can view the assignment grades he/she created, by selecting a student or a component from the tree on the left side of the page.

ASSIGNMENTS

In this section, the teacher can view, add, edit or delete the assignments (Assignments created by you tab) and view the list of assignments associated by course (Assignments associated by course tab).

Create an assignment

In order to create an assignment, the user has to fill in the following fields:

  • Assignment title
  • Assignment content
  • Expire date (optional field)
  • Stop send on expire - if checked, the students can no longer reply to this assignment after the expire date
  • Maximum number of replies

Optionally, the teacher may add links for the assignment or attach files.

After the assignment is saved, he has to associate students for the assignment that has just been created, selecting users or classes from the tree on the left side of the page and clicking the Assign button:

Courses report

In this section is available the courses report. The information from the table are:

AVAILABLE COURSES


Current Courses

This section consists of a list of currently running courses that the user is teaching. Clicking on a course will display the Course Summary page which contains complete information related to that course and allows the user to execute certain actions, finish course, view course lessons etc.

Future Courses

This section consists of a list of scheduled courses that the user will be teaching and that have not started yet. Clicking on a course will display the Course Summary page which contains complete information related to that course. Also, the user may edit it, manage the participants for this course or start / finish the course etc.

Course History

In this section, the user can view a list of all finished courses that the user has teached. Clicking on a course will display the Course Summary page which contains complete information related to that course.

REGISTER PARTICIPANTS


This section shows a list of all courses to which the teacher is assigned as a registration user.

APPROVE PARTICIPANTS


This section shows a list of all courses that have participants whose attendance needs to be approved by the currently logged user. In the right of the course summary page are shown the participants and in the Operations menu are available the following actions:
